Scotts Head

Scotts Head is the ideal holiday location

Whether it’s a long earned vacation away from your usual surroundings, a getaway to the beach, time away with the family, Scotts Head is an idyllic seaside village located centrally in the beautiful and popular holiday destination of the NSW Mid North Coast and is the perfect place to unwind and relax.

Small enough to feel like you are away from the hustle and bustle of a larger town, but big enough to still provide for all your holiday needs.

The golden sands of Forster Beach (Big Beach) stretching north for over 11 km to where the Nambucca river enters the ocean at Nambucca Heads is ideal for family beach activities including swimming (lifeguard presence in peak holiday periods), surfing, walking, snorkelling, fishing and other beach activities. Restricted 4WD access is also available subject to permit.

Two other more secluded beaches, Little and Wakki are located south of Big Beach and are more suited to surfing, sunbaking and exploring rock pools with the kids. Little beach is also a good starting point for a nice walk around the magnificent headlands sheltering the town.

In addition to the beach fishing opportunities, these headlands lend themselves to excellent rock fishing and for those wanting to venture offshore a boat ramp located at the southern end of Big Beach provides access to the ocean.  Scotts head also offers a gateway to Warrell creek which runs parallel to the coast north to Nambucca Heads and west to the valley foothills. Apart from fishing the river offers opportunities for boating, canoeing, kayaking and soaking up the diverse fauna and flora.

Big beach headland has a viewing platform where you can sit and watch the surfers, dolphins at play, migrating humpback whales and the beautiful sunsets framed in the distant mountains and highlighted by the golden reflections on the ocean.

There are also tracks along the headlands surrounding these beaches which are ideal for exploration, or sitting somewhere secluded and watching the world go by.

Nestled between Big Beach and Little Beach can be found the Reserve day use area with covered eating areas ideal for picnics, or you can cook for yourself on one of the free sheltered BBQ facilities. There is adequate car parking, toilet and shower facilities.

Other recreational amenities in Scotts Head include lawn bowls, 2 tennis courts, two ovals, one with a cricket pitch and practice batting cage, netball/basketball court and just for the kids there is outstanding play ground equipment at the Reserve, and Vernon St oval.

For those looking for a cool change away from the beach it’s less than a 20 min drive to Yarriabini National Park and Way Way State Forest where you will be surrounded by magnificent rainforest. Picnic and BBQ facilities are available in a clearing surrounded by sky bound ghost gums and other native trees.

Scotts Head has a well stocked supermarket including limited postal and newsagency facilities, seafood outlet, liquor outlet, gift shop, surf wear shop, bakery, butcher, chemist, bowling club (with bistro), takeaway/eat in café’s, and more.

The Nambucca Valley has plenty of activities to offer, and many historical, artistic, and natural attractions just waiting to be discovered and explored but that’s another day.
